2005北米巡回展示会「Shojo Manga! Girls' Power!」報告その1 (10/26-12/14/05)：チコよりスタート

カリフォルニア州立大学チコ校より米国巡回展示会（2005-2006)が国際交流基金助成金（LA展示会＆NY学会）のおかげで、２年間の準備期間を経て、スタート！巡回最初の地、地元ということもあって、展示会にあわせて、いろいろ関連イベントを開催することができました。オープニングには米国内外からゲストスピーカーを招待してのオープニングシンポジウム。その中には米国へマンガの価値を初めて紹介した本を出版したことで著名なフレデリック　ショット氏や少女コミックライターで研究家でもあるトリナ　ロビン女史、そしてそして川崎市市民ミュージアムの学芸員で少女マンガ研究家のヤマダトモコさんも。クロージングシンポジウムにはなんと藤本由香里さんや竹宮恵子さんにもおいでいただきましたよ。今思っても豪華でなメンツです。多忙な中のご参加本当に感謝です。（＊チコでの展示会の様子はここをクリック！少女マンガサイトに飛びます。その時の様子を御覧くださいね。）

図録も多くの方の貢献で出版することができました。８０頁の前半分は１０人の専門家による「マンガ」を含むVisual Pop-cultureについての論文集。そして後半は２３人の作家さんのプロフィールや作品紹介です。日本のヴィジュアル　ポップカルチャーの入門書になれば幸いです。

The catalogue is unique, divided into two parts. In the first part scholars and critics from Japan and the US discuss the phenomenon of Japanese manga and its influence in US society. Each contributor has written a short article on Japanese visual pop culture from the perspective of their research in their own fields. The second part contains information about each shojo manga artist who has contributed to the exhibition, including historical background, characteristics of the artworks, and the artist’s philosophy as expressed through manga. In this part the shojo manga artists are divided chronologically into three main epochs from post W.W. II to the present: 1) Dawn of shojo manga, 2) The diversity of girls’ manga, and 3) The new generation and new directions in shojo manga. We hope that you enjoy exploring the historical and cultural changes that took place in the shojo manga of each period in response to the social changes experienced by females in Japan during those same periods.

少女マンガ展図録は２つの内容に大別されています。 日本マンガやポップカルチャーに見識のある方々の論文集、 一つは２３人の作家の方々の作品紹介とプロフィール。また作家紹介の部分は、３つの時期に分けてまとめられています１）近代少女マンガの夜明け時代、　２）近代少女マンガの多様化の時代、そして　３）次世代少女マンガ時代へ。
